Experiences and apprehension from the life of a new father.
I finished the birthday invitations and was showing them to Fannie and Giovanna. The cover picture had her wearing oversized glasses, while the inside photo showed her deftly cocked soft cap in place as she drove a race car.
We showed her the pictures and said, "Who's that?", a game we have played many times.
Giovanna pointed at the picture and said, "That's you!"
"No it isn't, silly," I said. "That's you!"
She repeated what I said and I thought she was just parroting me. It took me a minute to realize we had a "Who's On First?" situation. Every time we show her a picture of herself, we say "That's you". She has learned to say "That's you" when she sees herself!
It's really hard to teach that when I say "That's you," she is supposed to say, "That's me." Point of view is a very advanced concept when you remember to think about it.

Tonight while we were watching TV, the little girl started to trot out her toys. She pushed a chair against the couch and put a few animals on it.
She then ran back and got two more chairs and tucked them in close to the other one. Next up was her plastic tractor / Fred Flinstone foot bicycle. Then came balls, puzzles, teddy bears, computer learning games, blocks and everything else she could get her hands on. Even the baskets that the toys normally rest in.
She precariously balanced them all on one another, creating an ever taller tower. She stepped onto a chair and tried to place a toy even higher on the stack. On the way down, she got stuck in the middle of the pile and couldn't get out. I lifted her from the debris, and she covered her mouth and let out an "ooh" when one of the toys teetered from its position and fell.
"What in the world are you doing, baby?" we asked.
It was a little later that Fannie remembered moving all the furniture to one side of the room as she swept under the rug today.

Daylight savings time has kicked in, bringing light later in the day. When I get home from work now, we still have time to go for a walk in the neighborhood.
Today we were more playful than usual. Giovanna took off at a run and I had to chase her down. When I got in front of her, I started skipping. It's kind of a devious joke because she can't jump or skip. She manages a stutter step on one foot, though, which is a pretty good approximation of skipping.
Next I put out my arms and zigzagged back and forth across the sidewalk as I said, "zoom, zoom." I was imitating the way I've seen other little kids pretend they are an airplane. Giovanna played right along, with her arms out -- making loud noises as she ran.
After we got around to the back side she was pretty tired. I could hear her strong breathing. We stopped for a second and she panted away with her tongue hanging out, waiting for her heart to slow down.
She looked up at me, started laughing and said, "doggie, doggie" because of the sound she was making.
