Experiences and apprehension from the life of a new father.
After last night, none of us wanted to get up in the morning. Giovanna was knocked out past her normal time.
Most mornings she is woken by the light in her room around 7:00 and we bring her to our bed where she sleeps until 10:00. This morning she stayed in her crib late.
One of the books I have read to Giovanna is a touch and feel texture book called, "Fuzzy, Fuzzy". It shows the difference between smooth, rough, bumpy, fuzzy, furry and other textures. I taught her to feel papa's unshaven face when we get to the "rough" page.
As we gradually woke up, and realized that Giovanna would not be joining us this morning, Fannie's hand brushed my face. "Hmm, kind of rough," she said. Her hand moved down to my chest. "Fuzzy, Fuzzy," I said.
Parents' idea of fun and romance is different than when they were childless.

I've been working on gathering receipts for our tax return lately. This involves a lot of filing and flipping through folders in the file drawers to find the right paperwork.
No matter what I am doing, the little girl gets interested and wants to join in. I generally don't notice what I am doing, or rather, what she might pick up by watching me.
Today I opened the file cabinet drawer and was on my knees flipping through the folders. She ran to the other end of the drawer and started walking through the folders using her index finger and middle finger to hop from folder to folder. She flipped through half a dozen folders before she stopped and pulled out a piece of paper from one.
Holding it up, she exclaimed, "I found it!"

Giovanna still can't jump. She always keeps one foot on the ground as she valiantly tries. Tonight she was desparate to succeed.
She was watching an Elmo exercise video and decided to join in. She leapt from her chair and started trying to jump along with the characters in the show. She was slowly rotating in a circle as she threw her arms and one leg up. "Stamp, stomp, stamp," went her foot with each attempt.
She continued non-stop for a full 5 minutes without success.
