Experiences and apprehension from the life of a new father.
There are lots of toys in our living room. From blocks to puzzles to fake computers, balls, strollers, dolls and other more complicated games.
Giovanna eventually plays with all of them, but rotates her interest around. I'm glad she isn't obsessed with a particular toy. Some of them seem too advanced for her though. One I thought she couldn't get for a long time involved placing different shaped pieces, like a triangle, star or square, into a matching slot of the same size. The piece and slot are colored the same to aid in finding the matching shape.
Today she was able to put half a dozen pieces into their right place. I know she doesn't really understand the shapes yet. I think she recently figured out different colors and learned how to match them.

Tonight there was an ad on TV in which a couple saves cell phone minutes by talking fast like an auctioneer. Fannie had never heard an auctioneer before, so I looked on the internet for an audio file.
I came across recordings of the national champions for the last 20 or 30 years. I started playing one to show Fannie, but Giovanna got really upset. She started yelling and told us to turn it off.
I have no idea what triggered that. I will probably try playing it again later to see if she responds the same way.

Every night when it is time to go to bed, my wife has taught Giovanna to kiss me goodnight before they head off to the baby's room. Fannie then rocks her in the dark for 5 minutes to put her to sleep.
Until a few weeks ago, Giovanna used to fall asleep on the couch next to us and we would deposit her in the crib. But lately, she has wanted to stay up as late as we do, so the need for rocking.
I keep my hair very short, so Fannie will sometimes rub the top of my head to show affection. She generally does it when she is carrying Giovanna out of the room and she won't be back for a while.
The little girl doesn't miss anything. Tonight she stood next to me on the couch and gave me a kiss goodnight. Then she reached up and rubbed the top of my head.
"Night, Night!"
