Experiences and apprehension from the life of a new father.
Giovanna is becoming more insistent that we let her do things by herself. This means she wants to do things the way we do them.
She no longer likes to use plastic plates and baby spoons, sippy cups, bibs, or booster seats. No, she wants to do things exactly the way we do. She's good at it now, I'll give her that. She can use our silverware and smaller glasses. She also clears the table and unloads the dishwasher, so there are advantages.
Tonight she insisted on putting on her Dr. Denton's by herself. She hasn't quite gotten the left foot / right foot thing, or the inside out and upside down differences. When she came into the living room, one leg ended with a footie and the other came out of a sleeve and showed her bare foot.
She looked like kind of like FloJo setting a world record. Well, you get the idea.

The weather is starting to warm and the sun is out later. Just like last summer, this gives me a chance to walk with Giovanna after work.
When she first started running, she tripped while out with me and skinned her knee. I think there may be a small scar still there. Damaged goods. Fannie really gave me a hard time about that.
Today Giovanna was running in her pink boots and black bell-bottoms. She is pretty athletic. She looks about as coordinated as you can when your thighs are bound by diapers and your feet are weighted down by heavy shoes. She tripped and fell, catching herself with her hands on the cement sidewalk. Then she slipped getting up and bumped her mouth on the ground. Oooh, what a howl she had when I picked her up.
By the time we got back to the house, her lip had swelled up. There was a bruise on the inside where her teeth had bitten the skin. Fannie gave her a baggie with ice to hold to her lip for the swelling.
All I got was a dirty stare and some mumbling about trust and not protecting my child.
