Experiences and apprehension from the life of a new father.
We went out tonight, so Fannie's nephew and girlfriend came by to babysit. When we got back Giovanna had just pulled out a ball that she uses to practice her soccer moves.
Her cousin stood at the end of the carpet in front of the couch, while the little girl lined up at the other end. She put the ball down, look at it and then adjusted to the left a little. She carefully lined up with the ball and then... made a fake shot to the right, quickly pulled back and fired left at the couch. The ball went wide of her cousin and rolled under the couch.
Just like a pro, I thought.

Every once in a while, Giovanna comes up with her own approach. I'm not sure what she was trying to accomplish today, but it looked like a pagan ritual.
Her two little chairs for the coloring table were sitting in the middle of the living room. She had a towel wrapped around her head and over her shoulders. She walked between the chairs, then squatted down for a second, then walked again. She kept circling them and going back for another pass.
I have no idea where she learned it or what she was trying to do.

I think most children learn by imitating. Our daughter seems to have this technique down cold, considering the things she's copied.
Today we were watching TV when she started doing the splits in the middle of the living room. Giovanna switched from the splits to running in circles as the commercial changed from a surfer to a cheetah.
I wonder what triggers her to decide to imitate something?
